We get asked this every day, and the honest answer is: not always. If you search right now and find ten seats at a low promotional fare, buying them individually might be cheaper than the group quote. But that is rarely the full picture.
Why the cheapest online fare can mislead you
Airlines sell seats in fare "buckets". The lowest bucket on a flight might only have four seats left. Book ten tickets in one go online and the system quietly prices the last six at a higher bucket. Book them on different days and the price moves every time.
What a group fare gives you
- One price for everyone, including people who confirm late.
- Seats held without names, so you can lock a fare before the guest list is final.
- Staged payments instead of paying 100% upfront.
- One booking to manage when the airline changes the schedule.
When individual tickets make more sense
If everyone is confirmed, everyone can pay today, the trip is soon and the public fare is low, booking individually can be the better deal. We will tell you that if it is the case — there is no point selling you a group fare that costs more.
A quick way to decide
| Situation | Usually better |
|---|---|
| Travel is 6+ weeks away and names are not final | Group fare |
| Peak dates (Diwali, Christmas, wedding season, school holidays) | Group fare |
| Everyone confirmed, travel in a few days, flight is half empty | Individual tickets |
| Group of 30+ on one flight | Group fare |
Quick answers
Do airlines give a discount for group bookings?
Group fares are negotiated separately rather than being a fixed percentage off. On busy flights they often work out lower than what late bookers would pay; on empty flights a public sale fare can be lower.
Can AirRJ compare both options for me?
Yes. Send the route and dates and we will show the group fare alongside the current public fare so you can decide.
