Baggage on group bookings: allowances, pooling and extra kilos

What is usually included, why "pooling" rarely works the way people hope, and how to add extra kilos cheaply.

By the AirRJ Group Desk · Updated 4 Nov 2026

Baggage is the most common source of surprise charges at group check-in. A few minutes of planning avoids it.

What is usually included

On Indian domestic economy fares, 15 kg of checked baggage and 7 kg of cabin baggage is common, but some fares include less or nothing at all. International allowances vary much more by airline and route — anything from 20 kg to two pieces of 23 kg each. The allowance for your fare is written on the quote and on the e-ticket.

Can a group pool its baggage?

Some airlines allow passengers on the same booking who check in together to combine their allowance; others do not. Even where pooling is allowed, a single bag usually cannot exceed the per-piece weight limit. Do not plan around pooling unless we have confirmed it for your airline.

Adding extra baggage

Prepaid extra baggage, added before the travel date, is almost always cheaper than paying at the airport counter. We can add it for the whole group or for selected passengers.

Cabin bag tips for groups

  • One cabin bag plus one small personal item is the usual rule.
  • Power banks must go in cabin baggage, never in checked bags.
  • Liquids over 100 ml go in checked baggage on most international flights.

Quick answers

How much baggage is allowed on IndiGo or Air India domestic group tickets?

It depends on the fare type; 15 kg checked plus 7 kg cabin is common on domestic economy. Your quote shows the exact allowance.

Airline group rules differ by carrier, route and season, and they change. Treat this guide as a planning aid — the fare rules written on your AirRJ quote are what apply to your booking.
