Umrah groups make up a large share of our international bookings, especially from Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Kozhikode and Kochi. The flights are only one part; the organiser is also juggling visas, hotels near the Haram and pilgrims of every age.
Jeddah or Madinah?
Most groups fly into Jeddah (JED) and out of Madinah (MED), or the other way round, so they do not have to travel back between the two cities by road. The Haramain high-speed train also connects Makkah, Jeddah and Madinah.
Visas
Saudi Arabia issues Umrah visas and tourist e-visas, and the rules and platforms (such as Nusuk) have changed several times in recent years. Confirm the current visa process with your Umrah operator before collecting money from pilgrims.
Peak periods
- Ramadan, especially the last ten days, is the busiest period. Book months in advance.
- School holidays in India (May–June, December) are also busy.
- Umrah is generally paused in the weeks around Hajj.
Zamzam water
Many airlines allow one sealed 5-litre Zamzam container per passenger on return flights, sometimes outside the normal baggage allowance, but rules differ by airline. Tell your group the rule for their specific flight.
Planning for elderly pilgrims
Request wheelchair assistance in advance, keep medicines in cabin bags, and seat elderly travellers near family members.
